REVERSE MILLER FORMULA



For ages, to determine the stability of a rotating projectile, ballistics experts had little choice but to apply Greenhill's formula. Today, Miller's more accurate formula is used. Unfortunately, this formula only helps determine whether the weapon's rifle pitch is sufficient to guarantee the stability of a given projectile. But most people are not interested in knowing whether the equipment is suitable, but rather, which equipment is best for the ammunition that they selected for its ballistic performance. With the form below, we did the maths for you.

Please note that all dimensions are expressed in thousandths of an inch. Meaning that the diameter of a .308 projectile is entered as 308 (without a dot). Projectile weight is in grains. By default, the dimension data of the Sierra 308 MatchKing 210 grain is displayed, together with a speed of 2800 fps, or 850 meters per second, which is commonly accepted as being the maximum allowable speed to prevent early wear of a quality barrel.
